Memories of Tansley Players
By Dinah Gregory
"In the early 1970,s I was a young married mother of two small children, when I heard that Peter Clark was trying to form a drama group to put on plays, pantomimes and revues. Having always been interested in Amateur Dramatics I went to the first meeting, and for the next 30 or so years Tansley Players became an all consuming hobby for me. Several of us lent the Players £50 each so that we had a small fund to buy Back cloths, costume material, stage make up etc. This was soon paid back, for we had full audiences to all our productions,of which we staged three per year, usually one panto, one play and one revue.
The excitement generated amongst us from castings, rehearsals, performances and the last night party was terrific and never seemed to ebb. Rehearsals for the first few weeks were held in the top room at The Royal Oak (proving handy for refereshments) and from then on at the Parish Hall. Dramas occured both on and off the stage, but nothing stopped the show going on, and our audiences were very loyal.
I felt and still remember with great fondness and fun, laughter, comradeship and plesure I shared with the Players. It was a great time in my life, and I wish the Players well".
